A new look at the Beatitudes
If you ask most people to describe who is really lucky, who will get a similar list of those upon whom worldly fortune has smiled. But when Jesus gave his most famous sermon, he began with a list of who is blessed that turns conventional thinking on its head. Jesus knew we needed a better perspective, one with eternal values in view, one that helped people in ordinary and even difficult circumstances understand God’s intentions to bless. Today Pastor Kelvin explains what the word blessed means and summarizes who Jesus says is blessed with four words: the humble, the hurting, the helpful and the holy.
Planning Group makes reopening plan
Copper Hill Church’s COVID-19 Planning Group met this past week and agreed upon a four-stage concept to help our church move toward reopening. It did not set any dates but felt that having this conceptual framework would help us work toward our goals going forward.
- Stage 1. While we are still online only, move the site for the online broadcast to church while maintaining the same service plan. Goals of this will be to help us connect with our church building again; to experiment with what will work technically when we return in-person in stage three; and to help ease the transition for the team.
- Stage 2. Open the church for socially distanced small groups. The goal is to allow for committees, Bible studies, small groups to use the fellowship hall and for pastor to be able to meet with someone there for counsel if needed.
- Stage 3. Open the church for in-person services with the restrictions that are called for at the time we reopen. We intend to wait until our governor and bishop allow at least 1/3 capacity rather than 1/4 as it is currently.
- Stage 4. Open without restrictions. This happens after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Hold a celebration of full reopening.
Our planning group is already working behind the scenes to advance these goals. Please pray for them as they overcome the various obstacles.
