A Confirmation Story
As I posted two weeks ago, on Pentecost Sunday Copper Hill Church had the privilege of confirming three more junior teens. The journey of the 2020 confirmation class has been a long one. It started with in-person classes after church. but those were interrupted by COVID and replaced by online Zoom sessions. Both online and in-person sessions for the five confirmands featured Pastor Kelvin’s PowerPoint creations focused on the Apostle’s Creed to help the young teens understand the basics of the faith and make the faith their own. Classes were finished by summer of 2020 but we could not hold the confirmation service. The teens participated in online services by serving as Scripture readers several times in the months that followed as they patiently waited for the church reopening so we could conduct the actual confirmation liturgy. The girls also joined Mrs. Jones’s teen Zoom group. As a part of this they completed a multimedia project on Pentecost including original art, music and script. The finished project was featured in our 2021 Pentecost service. Ella Robison and Morgan and Malia Gabbidon were confirmed in the Pentecost service. Anna Griffin and Connor Mandirola had been confirmed on Mother’s Day.
The service itself included a formal blessing as Pastor Kelvin Jones pronounced the blessing of Numbers 6:24-26 over each teen. The church Education department led by Sheri Mandirola presented each with a gift of a new Bible. Membership secretary Sarah Oliver had prepared beautiful membership certificates for each one which Pastor Kelvin signed, imprinted with the church seal and presented to each one.
Thanks to Ella’s Mom Ruth Robison and Morgan and Malia’s brother Jordan for these pictures.
