Two confirmands take membership vows
Watch the service
This was a special Sunday at Copper Hill Church as Ian Griffin and Madison Schantz were confirmed and joined our church. Each one participated in the service by reading Scripture as well and Ian also served on the technical team as he usually does. Both Ian and Madison had previously completed a six-session confirmation class conducted by Pastor Jones. Lisa Griffin who served as Pastor’s assistant for the class had aided the two confirmands in an attractive cross craft project which they displayed at the service. It was meant to help them think about the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross. Christian Education Chair Robert Loomis presented each one with a new study Bible and Membership Secretary Sarah Oliver presented each with their signed membership certificate which Ian and Madison are holding in the featured picture.
Series on Worship concludes
Pastor Jones mentioned that one of the parts of the curriculum for confirmation class is to learn about the various things that we do in church. In the spirit of that and also as the conclusion to his message series about worship, he taught us about what it means to offer praise to God. We learned that there are lots more facets of praise than just thanksgiving for all that God has done, though that is certainly one. He reminded us that we especially need to honor and revere God and praise him for who he is, his love, his holiness, his justice, his faithfulness, his mercy, his grace, etc. If we simply worship God for what he gives us, then when times are bad, we may have a crisis of faith. But if we are also worshiping God for who he is, that does not change, and our worship will help to carry us through our times of trial by reminding us of who God is.
Great Pictures
Our thanks to Lisa Griffin, Sarah Oliver, and Cory and Deanna for some great pictures of Confirmation Sunday to share with you today.
