Impressions from the new guy
Our fall roast pork dinner was a great success. The tables were gaily decorated for autumn with small bouquets of flowers as the crowning touch. Being a newbie, I was impressed that the plates and cups were real, not paper or Styrofoam. It makes things so much homier. To help with traffic flow, the sanctuary serves as the staging area where everyone sits and chats while waiting to be seated. And it was my privilege to give thanks in the sanctuary for the food and fellowship at the beginning. I also took time during the meal to meander among the tables greeting the guests and making discussion–not that I needed to as there was a wonderful busy hum of conversation in the room all during the dinner. The pork was deliciously tender and one of the guests pronounced the carrots “the best.” But for me, nothing detracted from the wonderful home-made apple pies served with generous chunks of cheddar cheese.
Volunteers make it happen
Our volunteers turned out in force and enjoyed great fellowship too as they worked hard to make it happen. I was impressed by the smoothly organized effort and the high turnout of volunteers. Afterward the clean-up went quickly too with the dishes going through the sterilizer quickly and stacked again for another day.
How awesome!! Wish I could have been there!!
