Attendance was good as Pastor Kelvin continued his message series on “Finding Hope.” He reminded us that in order to truly find hope, we need to have an ultimate hope. Jesus has provided heavenly hope through his resurrection from the dead and his assurances of eternal life to those who follow him (John 3:15,16).
Our lives change for the better when we have heavenly hope. We have increased joy and greater stability in our faith because we can always look ahead with anticipation. We also live with a sense of accountability before God, knowing that we will see Jesus someday and will need to give an account of ourselves. Whether Jesus returns to earth before we die, or whether he comes to receive our soul personally before then, it does not matter. Either way, Peter says that we ought to “live holy and godly lives” (2 Peter 3:11). Then we will be ready.
Having heavenly hope also means that we look forward to seeing Jesus and to a reunion with loved ones who also loved Jesus. Pastor Kelvin reported reading about an artist who paints deceased loved ones back into current family photos. Just think about the family reunions that Jesus will create with he draws us all back together again (1 Thess. 4:17). What an awesome heavenly hope!
